Introduction
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the announcement of the STG4000 Kyro graphics chip this series of articles has been written to bring together in one place various fragments of information and artefacts relating to the history of STG graphics hardware, and other articles covering Kyro related subject matter.
The information presented has been gathered from many sources and where possible has been corroborated. Any errors, omissions or misattributed details are my fault entirely.
Original downloads are available where possible. Files labelled as "hornet build" have been rebuilt from source using period correct tools including Visual Studio 6 SP5 with processor pack, DirectX7a SDK etc. in a Windows 2000 Virtual Machine and can be run on any hardware, when originally many were limited to running on specific hardware only.
